Background
Born on the Sagittarius-Capricorn Cusp I am as shocked as you might be that I pretty much exemplify many of the typical traits of my birth sign. We tend to be scholars and hard working folks, though we have tempers and are stubborn. We tend to be true to the goals and beliefs we study, and are deeply into the philosophical. All of which is good in my line of work, you see I'm a Paranormal Investigator — and sometimes eliminator, but that's a long story. I'm also a crafter of mystical objects, or an 'Artificer' to use the modern term.
Yes…I said 'Mystical Objects'.
It really shocks me that so few people believe in magic. Now I'm not talking about your typical watcher of Paranormal State or the people that read their horoscope daily, or hang out in occult bookstores talking about feng shui as they finger their crystal medallions.
No, I am talking about people that believe, that know that magic is real and know it bone deep. Usually these people start out as non-believers, or like one of the folks I described above and then some event changes their lives forever, making the world a brighter and more dangerous place. And that's where I come in.
My family has been in the Artificer trade for close to a thousand years now, which is a long time in anyone's book. Originally of Greek ancestry we've long been a line of scholars and more than a few of us have had The Gift. Magic is something that's been a part of my life since I can remember, and my parents and grandparents made sure I knew my rotes and rites even as I was learning to read and write and going to mundane school.
Always luck seemed to favor me, and it turns out that I had the ability to alter probability for others a bit, sometimes to help, sometimes to harm. Mom said I was Charmed, which sounds fine to me, we'll go with that.
My folks have retired in recent years, and moved back to Greece, they have a lovely villa on a private island. Me? I got left the family home in San Angeles, miraculously the house was relatively undamaged after the quake, and when the new city was built we simply moved it to the new location. Pretty sweet on the whole.
My plans for the future are a little nebulous right now, but I take jobs and help people out when I can. That's always been the way our family worked, and I see no reason to change it.
